‘The Tomorrow People’ episode 11 review: Is Cara the right captain for this ship?
The great news? “The Tomorrow People” on Wednesday night corrected some of the problems that we had with the last new episode. Astrid had more of a presence, and we appreciated that greatly. But, at the same time, this show is still not grabbing us. There has to be something that has you consistently gravitated to the screen, and excited to have you pay attention in a busy night of programming. We didn’t quite get that from this one.
To us, maybe one of the biggest issues is Cara, who was much of the focus here. Despite us learning more and more about her past, there is still something about her that feels a little off-putting, almost in the same way that Laurel does on “Arrow.” Maybe it is because the two of them are the sort of predictable love interests, and there really is not as much to like with that in comparison to some people like Astrid, who are much easier to relate to.
But, we do admittedly like seeing her in more of a leadership role, since this does introduce a new and very different dynamic into the Tomorrow People camp where there is chaos. It would make sense that these people with powers would suffer some sort of confusion and paranoia that comes with being different. The more that is focused on this rather than the boring and at-times frustrating Ultra, the happier that we are going to be in the end. For now, we feel like we’re watching a show that does good things, but then masks them by giving us more of the same every week. Grade: C+.
