‘Arrow’ season 2: Grant Gustin’s ‘The Flash’ pilot books Jesse L. Martin as…

You have already met Barry Allen on a pair of episodes of “Arrow” season 2, and now, you’re going to be getting a chance to meet The Flash potentially this fall on The CW. While the spin-off has not been greenlit to series just yet, it does in some ways feel more like a formality than something that we actually have to wait to see unfold.

Now, we know for sure who the first co-star of this project is going to be. Sources confirm that former “Law & Order” star Jesse L. Martin is poised to book the series, and is going to play the role of Detective West. He is an employee of the Central City Police Department, and has in some ways served as a mentor-of-sorts to Barry over the course of the past several years. Given that this character works in forensics for the department, we imagine that the police are going to have even more of a critical role on this show than on “Arrow,” where they do still show up regularly.

The pilot for “The Flash” is being shot this fall, with David Nutter (who did the “Arrow” pilot) also stepping into this role here. The way in which this procedure goes is that the project will shoot, and The CW will make their decision at some point before the May upfronts; personally, we imagine that it would take a complete, “Wonder Woman” sort of disaster in order to keep this show off of the air in the fall. “Arrow” is a beast on the network, we’ve already met the character, and The Flash is arguably just as popular of a superhero, if not even more so in some circles, than the Green Arrow.
