Producers Guild Awards: ‘The Colbert Report,’ NBC’s ‘The Voice’ among winners
One day after the Screen Actors Guild Awards handed out some trophies for some of the best that the world of entertainment had to offer, it was time for the folks over at the Producers Guild to do the same exact thing. So what did we have as a result? Something that can definitely be described as a show that didn’t even need to happen. This may be the most predictable grouping of results that you have ever seen.
As we’ve done with just about every other awards show that we’ve covered the past few months, we’re going to give you the winner alongside a tiny bit of analysis. Also, these are just the TV winners; the victorious parties from the world of film shall be left for a site that actually covers the topic more extensively.
Drama Series – “Breaking Bad.” It has won almost every award, but at the same time, it’s awful hard to argue against something that is on such a tear of domination.
Comedy Series – “Modern Family.” This one should be a little more disputed, but we find that many shows that have film and TV voters just go with the expected choice for the latter.
TV Movie / Miniseries – “Behind the Candelabra.” Like “Breaking Bad,” it’s the right choice … even if it is the boring choice.
Talk / Live Entertainment Program – “The Colbert Report.” Typically, this would be more surprising had it not finally unseated “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” this past fall.
Reality Competition Series – “The Voice.” Also, another recent Emmy winner, and a show that has become an awards darling as of late.
Also, we should point out that “Sesame Street” won for Children’s Series and “SportsCenter” won for Sports Series … which each seem to be the most predictable things of all time. You really should just give it to Big Bird every year; who is more deserving?
