‘The Following’ season 2, episode 2 preview: Ryan Hardy and more masks
“The Following” debuted Monday night with what has to be one of the craziest ways that the show could have possibly started. Not only did we have the reveal that Sam Underwood was playing two separate characters, but Ryan Hardy may be much more involved in his hunt for Joe Carroll than it first seemed. What is going on with that mask? That is one of many things we are looking to get answers to in next week’s “For Joe.”
Let’s go ahead and at least dive into some of the details that are out there, starting with the first synopsis that has been unveiled by Fox:
“After the tragic subway killings, Ryan’s obsession with the case becomes stronger than ever. Soon, mysterious phone calls bring him face-to-face with what may be his biggest threat yet. Meanwhile, revelations surrounding Joe’s new life are brought to the surface.”
Having Hardy take on a very different role potentially in this investigation is what could end up making this new season of “The Following” so much more interesting. If this was more of the same, it would be so much easier to tune it off and dismiss it as a show that really should have ended after its first season. But thanks in part to all of this madness, it is starting to feel more and more like a show that cannot be ignored. To make things even more interesting, the stories of many characters are still to come. We don’t know much yet about the twins, or about what Emma is doing now that she is in a much different place within the cult.
As for Joe Carroll, we’re mostly just interested to see some of his interactions with Carrie Preston … who is finally getting to play someone more potentially evil after being nice waitress Arlene on “True Blood.”
