‘Game of Thrones’ season 4 video: Go behind the scenes with Peter Dinklage, Gwendoline Christie

If there is one message that some of the cast members for “Game of Thrones” would like to hand down prior to their season 4 premiere on Sunday, April 6, it is this: They genuinely believe that their show is the bee’s knees.

In the video below, you can see the likes of Peter Dinklage (Tyrion), Charles Dance (Tywin), Maisie Williams (Arya), Gwendoline Christie (Brienne), and the showrunners themselves talk about what makes the new episodes ahead particularly noteworthy. This is a series that has filmed in multiple countries, has the largest cast and crew in television, and never skimps when it comes to ambition. Just look at the way in which they handled the Red Wedding, or some of the battle scenes that we’ve witnessed whether in Blackwater or other places.

The word that we really have heard so many of the actors come back to already, time and time again, is “scripts.” Dinklage echoes in the video what we heard Kit Harrington say just last night while at the Screen Actors Guild Awards: These are some of the best ones that have been received so far. While there is still plenty of action and drama, there is also great storytelling and character-building behind it. As more and more people are gradually killed off, the characters that are remaining are forced to do even more to establish the tone and the feel of the show. This is why Peter, Kit, and many other longtime stars have more responsibility than they ever did before.

“Game of Thrones” season 4 has already wrapped shooting this year, and thanks to its lengthy production time, which includes many months spent in post-production on graphics and effects, it will actually start shooting season 5 not that long after season 4 finishes … provided of course that there is no break. Probably at some point in the next couple of years, there will be one courtesy of George R.R. Martin needing a little more time to finish his book series before the show fully catches up with it.
