‘Downton Abbey’ season 4, episode 3 (PBS) preview: Where do Anna, Bates go from here?
Last Sunday on “Downton Abbey,” a story unfolded that most diehard fans of the show would have never envisioned: Anna was raped by Lord Gillingham’s valet Mr. Green, and he seemed to get away with it in the process thanks to an opera performance upstairs. While the show has dealt with death and other dark topics, the way in which this happened allowed it to be one of the darkest and most-terrifying storylines that the show has ever touched on.
So where do we go from here? We’ve got four teasers for this upcoming episode to get you excited, and all of them are relatively spoiler-free for American viewers. Therefore, read with confidence!
1. This episode will be the one that you meet Jack Ross for the first time. He is the show’s first-ever black character, and a man who works as a jazz singer and captures the attention very quickly of someone in the cast.
2. Anna and Bates are going to have some moments in this episode, but don’t expect any real resolution to anything for the time being. This is going to be a story that lasts for most of the season, as she has to figure out what to do to keep Bates from losing it on Mr. Green and getting himself in trouble.
3. Things may heat up for Mary and Lord Anthony Gillingham … with an emphasis on “may.” At least one person is going to be interested in it.
4. Remember Edna? Well, this is going to be an episode where things start to truly go insane for her when it comes to her latest plot with Tom Branson. There will be significant movement here by the hour’s end.
