NBC’s ‘Community’ season 5: Joel McHale, Conan O’Brien mock Justin Bieber … but why?
Some of you out there may wonder why there was even a need for a question mark to be added to the end of this article’s title, but yes: There was a very specific reason why Joel McHale and Conan O’Brien are having fun at Justin Bieber’s expense on tonight’s “Conan.”
In the video below, you can see the “Community” star utter some very-choice words about the pop star over the latest allegations that he “egged” the house of a neighbor. This entire controversy led to the police searching his entire property with a warrant, and his friend Lil Za (we don’t get the name, either) was arrested on charges of possession. Strangely, Za also managed to get arrested (again), this time for vandalism. We actually like to imagine the picture above is Joel and Jonathan Banks watching the highlights of the Bieber saga on some sort of Greendale TV network (which probably only runs about eight minutes of programming a day).
Outside of this, there’s probably still plenty of other great comedy for these two to riff on. They’ve known each other for a while, have similar senses of comedy, and Conan seems like the kind of guy that would appreciate “Community’s” greatness. We’re just thrilled that the cast by and large is doing so much promotion for the show. Joel, Gillian Jacobs, and Jim Rash in particular have been all over the place, and we’ve also seen Dan Harmon interviews, live-tweeting by Yvette Nicole Brown, and more. Even Donald Glover, who has barely done any press on the show since season 2, acknowledged it was coming on in a post on Twitter.
Thursday night’s episode is a big one, since it features the arrival of Walton Goggins in an important guest role.
