Ratings: ‘Intelligence’ starts solid for CBS; ‘Killer Women’ flops miserably for ABC

Clearly, there was some intelligent design behind CBS’ decision to start off “Intelligence” following a new episode of “NCIS” Tuesday night. In attempting to capitalize on one of the biggest lead-ins on television (at least in terms of total viewers), the drama ended up posting a 2.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic along with close to 16.6 million viewers. The latter count is especially huge for a new show, but all of this to us really just says that this show skewed older … about on the same level as “NCIS” does, but not on the same sort of crazy level as “Blue Bloods” (which practically gets a 1.0 for every 10 million viewers).

Does this mean that there is hope that Josh Holloway and company will stick around? Yes and no. The big thing that the show still has working against it is that it will be moving to Monday nights next week, where it will compete against the superior “The Blacklist,” as well as “Castle” and its devoted audience. We see the former being more of a problem, though, since “Castle” is not necessarily as dramatic in this way every week.

In terms of some other new shows from last night, ABC’s “Killer Women” was basically gunned down the moment that it began. Despite having an interesting idea and a vibe that felt very much like an attempt to bring something like a Robert Rodriguez movie to TV, it flopped almost as bad as Rodriguez’s “Machete Kills.” The show drew just a 0.9 rating in a timeslot on Tuesday night that seems to be poison for the network, though to be fair part of the problem here is that Marvel’s “Agents of SHIELD” has fallen all the way to a 2.1, and is no longer the beast that it looked like it would be at the start of the season.
