Will Champlin is wasting almost no time at all following his stint on “The Voice” to dive into the world of original music; as a matter of fact, the third-place contestant on the season has just released his first song since appearing on the show in “Eye of the Pyramid.”
What makes this song so strong is that it is not the sort of thing you would initially expect to hear from him, since you have a blend of a number of different styles, some fast-paced syncopation, and some lyrics that really get you thinking. It does also prove what Adam Levine said about him being such a hard worker is true. For him to already be on the grind on the level that he is so soon in the new year and after the end of season 5 shows great dedication.
Another great reason for Will to be getting new music out right now simply related to the short-term memory many people have when they watch TV these days … especially singing shows. It was a great move to get this out before “American Idol” returns to the air with all-new episodes on Wednesday, or before we ended up witnessing “The Voice” come back with another new season starting on February 24 after the conclusion of the Sochi Olympics. This is one of the things that you just have to prepare for these days in the sheer amount of competition that there is out there in the genre. It’s no longer really a luxury anymore to be able to spend a lot of time making an album, and not give potential listeners something to whet their appetites with in advance.
What do you think about Will’s song, and do you think it’s smart for contestants on these sort of shows to have a quick turnaround on a couple of songs after the show is over?
