‘Downton Abbey’ season 4, episode 1 (PBS) preview: Teasers for Michelle Dockery, cast
For those of you in North America waiting eagerly for the return of “Downton Abbey” to TV on Sunday night, the wait is almost over. You are about to embark on a journey that will take you into a fun and exciting time in the 1920s, where there are all sorts of crazy things that will take place.
The first thing to know here is a simple matter of episode delineating: While Sunday night’s “Part 1” of season 4 may be labeled as such for PBS, it actually makes up the first two episodes of the season. This means that you are going to spend two hours at the Abbey, with hardly any break in there to catch your breath.
So do you want to see a few teasers now? Without giving anything away, here are five teasers for what you can expect to see unfold.
1. Mary’s new life – Michelle Dockery has a ton of material this season, and by the time this episode is over, you are going to know just how she will move on without having Matthew in her life. There are some moments in here that are empowering, but also some that are a little pathetic.
2. A happy Edith – As season 4 picks up, Edith’s relationship with Michael Gregson from the last Christmas Special will be strong, and one of the most romantic that we have ever seen on the show. But what happens next? That is what you have to watch out for.
3. A Carson story – Just in case you have been curious to see more of Mr. Carson’s past, you’re going to get that when he has the opportunity to help someone out who really needs it. But, will he want to?
4. Rose makes her mark – Remember the story of the Prince and the Pauper? That is the only hint that we are going to give regarding her role in the first part of the season.
5. Tom Branson’s role – At times, Tom is a mentor to Mary when it comes to him offering up advice on how Mary could move forward. Meanwhile, he also does have to figure out now really where he goes with his life now without Sybil, and a feeling like he is not a part of British society.
