‘The Mentalist’ season 6, episode 11 preview: Otherwise known as the shortest sneak peek ever

Here is a novel thought: When you release a sneak peek for your show, there really should be one of two requirements that it meets: Either it provides some sort of new insight into what is coming up on a show, or it is longer than the initial promos that are released for an episode (which range between 20 and 30 seconds).

For whatever reason, the new promo for Sunday night’s return of “The Mentalist” in “White Lines” satisfies neither of these requests. This clip runs 17 seconds, and six of these seconds are showing you the title card for this “New Beginning.” The other eleven seconds are just featuring Rockmond Dunbar informing us that the latest case is going to be in Corpus Cristi. While this is a lovely city (as we have been there a few times), is informing us of a setting really that integral to us wanting to watch an episode?

Probably the most disappointing thing here is that there were some other good things that this preview could have shown off. For one, this is an episode that carries with it the title of “White Lines,” which is often otherwise referred to as a certain drug. Why not some more clues on that? Or, how about some video footage on this much-discussed date that Patrick Jane is going to be on? Is this a real show of romance, or something in order to lure in a prospective suspect? This is a little bit more interesting right now than a setting.

Then again, beggars cannot be choosers, and we really should just be happy that there is a new episode of the show airing at all on Sunday night. After all, we’re not getting any of “Once Upon a Time” until March.
