‘The Big Bang Theory’ season 7, episode 12 review: ‘NCIS’ changes Leonard and Penny

Who knew that “The Big Bang Theory” would choose to use “NCIS” to produce one of the biggest surprises that they have done in the show’s entire run? What we thought was going to be a silly episode ended up turning into so much more.

The best way to start here is just by going through exactly what happened bit by bit. Penny worked hard to get herself a role on “NCIS,” which made her start to feel like her career was going somewhere; but then, she learned that her scene was left on the cutting room floor, and she was beyond devastated.

What eventually came out of all this was a lot of drinking, and what we believe to be an attempt to grasp onto the last thing good in her life: Her relationship with Leonard. She proposed! The only problem with this is that this was far from the proposal that anyone was expecting going into this, and Leonard hesitated to give a response. She stormed out, and we’re now left with ambiguity and questions as to if they are still together or not.

In the end, we still feel like these two are going to work something out. Leonard probably got in his head and wondered if he should really go along with a decision Penny was making while obviously emotional and inebriated, and they will talk further about this soon. But, we have to imagine that if the two parties do get back together, it’ll be hard to go back to being just boyfriend and girlfriend again. They are going to have to take the next step.

All in all, this was a pretty strong episode given that it actually did something different than what we thought going in. Anytime that “The Big Bang Theory” does that, we celebrate. Grade: A-.
