‘The Bachelor’ cast spotlight: Meet Juan Pablo Galavis contestant Sharleen Joynt

When “The Bachelor Canada” was first announced, we assumed that this was probably going to mean the end for getting the opportunity to see contestants from north of the border on the American version of the show. Not so fast. Sharleen Joynt is representing Canada on Juan Pablo Galavis’ season of “The Bachelor,” but she has also traveled to such an extent that she really should not feel much like a fish out of water.

There is a lot about Sharleen that makes her an interesting addition to the cast this year, but one thing that is definitely going to work in her favor is that she will stand out from the crowd of pretty-similar ladies.

Possible pros – For one, she’s got one of those instant icebreaker sort of jobs in opera singer. If you are hoping to stand out early, this is such an easy way to have people want to keep you around and ask questions. In addition to be a legitimate soprano, she has also performed and traveled all around the world, seems to be well-read, and has an interesting family history. Out of the contestants this season, she has one of the more interesting lives.

Possible cons – There is really not a lot about Sharleen that screams that she could be a lot of fun or that she is ready to be a parent, which are two things that Juan Pablo is looking for. There is also of course the issue of where the two would settle if they become a couple at the end of this, since their jobs each require quite a bit of moving around and doing different things. Anytime that you do have a career as a performer, you also do have to question the motivation for going on the show naturally. We can’t do it for country singers with guitars and ignore it here just because opera is a little different.

Pre-show outlook – We don’t see Sharleen winning, mostly because it would be a little bit riskier than someone with a more settled job or someone geographically closer to Juan Pablo. But, we think that she will make a good enough impression on him to maybe get a one-on-one date, or even be the type of person that Juan Pablo was for Desiree Hartsock: Someone that she liked, but not enough to be a serious contender.
