Rose Parade 2014: Tessanne Chin, Will Champlin, Jacquie Lee ride in ‘The Voice’ float

While there were multiple telecasts this year in which we had an opportunity to see the 2014 Rose Parade (the 125th occasion in which this famed event has been held), the NBC feed is the one that we know many wanted to see for one simple reason: The chance to see none other than Tessanne Chin, Will Champlin, and Jacquie Lee of “The Voice.”

For those of you who constantly complain about NBC not supporting any of the stars after the show, this is an example of them doing so. All three of the finalists were on board, and they got a little bit of time to be in the spotlight again here following their time on the show last month. The one difficult thing about the way that “The Voice” is constructed is that they really don’t have a whole lot of time to bask in their glory as champions. The new season is going to start next month after the end of the Winter Olympics on NBC, where Shakira and Usher are going to once again replace Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green.

The only thing that was somewhat more entertaining than just seeing the awesome float that “The Voice” put together was Al Roker and Hoda Kotb’s hysterical commentary on it. Clearly, the two either started drinking early, or just decided not to do any research whatsoever before coming on the air. It seemingly took a few minutes for them to realize that Lee and Champlin were actually contestants on the show, since Roker referred to Champlin for a few minutes as an Adam Levine “lookalike” rather than actually figuring out that he was one of the contestants.

There was also some craziness that happened here when it came to actually getting the performance from Tessanne to work. After some massive technical difficulties, she then sang “Tumbling Down” while Will and Jacquie provided some backup vocals. Hats off to Tessanne for seemingly singing live, which is something that cannot be said for those people on the Macy’s Parade in New York City.
