Someone’s already suing A&E over ‘Duck Dynasty’ – Phil Robertson mess…
You knew that it was only a matter of time before someone was going to file a lawsuit in the messy situation that is unfolding regarding “Duck Dynasty” and A&E, but we have to say that we mostly expected that one of the parties one involved in taking legal action would be either the network or Phil Robertson.
According to a report from TMZ, the first plaintiff in the midst of this situation instead is a guy named Chris Sevier, who claims that by suspending Phil for some of his comments about homosexuality (which he ties to his Christian faith), A&E is making it more difficult for him and other churchgoers to share their own beliefs and witness to others. Sevier is supposedly a member of Phil’s church, and has also sued a number of other companies in the past including CBS, Facebook, and Apple.
In addition to suing A&E, Sevier is also reportedly suing President Barack Obama, saying that he is allegedly working with A&E to spread what is some sort of pro-gay agenda. He also suggests that if gay marriage is legal, people should also be allowed to marry their pets.
While it is probably pretty easy to have an extreme reaction to this lawsuit regardless of how you feel about the Phil Robertson situation, the truth here is that there are probably many more that will follow this one. There are tens of millions of dollars at stake in the battle between the family and the network; this is A&E’s highest-rated show, and it has also turned Duck Commander into an empire. While there have been other family-based reality shows like “The Osbournes” and ones like “Jersey Shore” that focus on a certain demographic, “Duck Dynasty” is the most popular reality show of its kind in the history of the genre. Things are going to get worse before they get better.
Yesterday, Phil spoke out in response to some of the backlash he has received following his initial comments.
