‘The Mentalist’ season 6 spoilers: More for all you Rigsby / Van Pelt fans

At this moment in time, there is still unfortunately no word as to how Rigsby and Van Pelt are going to eventually separate from the universe of “The Mentalist.” However, there is at least some more news on a character that you are going to see cropping up in the future that has of course went through some changes since you last saw them. (After all, you have to remember that a full couple of years have passed.)

According to TVLine, the show is casting a 4-5 year old to play the role of Rigsby’s son on the show, who will take over the part for the 15th episode of the season. That’s at least a sign that the two are going to be a part of the universe for at least that long, though you won’t be seeing he or his wife (pictured) in every episode along the way.

As for why we are seeing these two characters leaving the show this year, “creative changes” just seems to be the name of the game. While you can argue all about the questionable “logic” of this show for good reason, there is a certain amount of it that would be a stretch that every member of the CBI would suddenly be working with the FBI two years later. Plus, these two have other priorities now with their own independent career and their families. All we hope is that they get some sort of worthy send-off, and don’t just slowly start to disappear from the show to the point where it doesn’t feel like they were ever there.
