‘Duck Dynasty’ repeats continue airing on A&E, sponsors stay, album sales rise
The latest chapter of the Phil Robertson – “Duck Dynasty” saga is here, and there are some facts that are certainly going to surprise you. One of the biggest ones, at least to us, is that A&E continue to act like it’s business as usual.
As we are writing this, the network is in the middle of airing a lengthy marathon of repeats of the show … and all of them include the recently-suspended Phil. These episodes were scheduled before the controversy came out about his comments over homosexuality, so you cannot really proclaim it to be a deliberate ploy just to draw ratings based on the controversy.
There are a few other stories breaking that are worth noting, mostly because of the nature of the backlash and the petitions calling for Phil to be reinstated.
1. According to TMZ, one of Duck Commander and “Duck Dynasty’s” biggest sponsors in Under Armour is sticking with the family. While a rep claims that some of Phil’s comments are “not indicative” of how the company feels, they will continue supporting the family for the time being.
2. In the wake of the controversy, Billboard reports that “Duck The Halls: A Robertson Family Christmas” is actually going to increase its record sales this week to around 125.000 copies. This album has become the second-most-popular disc this holiday season that is primary based around Christmas music, behind only the Kelly Clarkson album “Wrapped in Red.”
