‘Doctor Who’ season 8 spoilers; Peter Capaldi reads first script!
“Doctor Who” fans, rejoice! There is quite a bit to look forward to even beyond the airing of the Christmas Special in a week. The beloved BBC series will not waste much time in between this special airing, and production starting up on the upcoming eighth season featuring Peter Capaldi in the title role of The Doctor.
The news on Twitter this week is that Capaldi has already finished reading his first script for the new season, and it is heavily rumored online that production for season 8 is going to start up early next year so that it will be ready to launch later in the summer of 2014.
Capaldi’s first bit of “footage” for the show came in a split-second cameo in the 50th Anniversary Special “The Day of the Doctor,” which was a very clever little way for Steven Moffat to try to implement some mystery into what would have otherwise been a cut-and-dry sort of situation with all of the Doctors. He is likely to also make some sort of appearance during the upcoming Christmas special, especially given that Matt Smith will be regenerating during the episode.
Will the former “The Thick of It” star be a great fit for the series? We at least know that he is someone that Moffat wanted in the role for a really long time, and much of the reason for that is because of his great body of work. Plus, he’s a lifelong fan of the show, meaning that he’ll at least have a pretty good idea of what fans may or may not be looking for when it comes to the character. The BBC is investing a lot into the character, or at least the same amount as they have invested into Smith, David Tennant, or anyone else to step into this role. They realize just how important the show is to the network’s legacy, and to the fans around the globe.
