‘The X Factor’ USA to lose Demi Lovato as a judge: Report
Well, who saw this coming? Rather than continuing to be attached to the sinking ship that is “The X Factor,” Demi Lovato appears to be doing the smart thing now and getting away from the show while she still can.
The report today comes via People Magazine, who claims that the primary reason for Demi’s decision is that she has a busy schedule next year that includes a tour, and it would conflict with the demanding audition schedule for the show. Therefore, she wants to adjust her focus to be a little bit more about her music. This would make Demi the latest in a long line of people to either leave the show, or to be dismissed by Fox after the season. Despite this only being the third season, she joins the likes of Nicole Scherzinger, Paula Abdul, L.A. Reid, and Britney Spears as people who were on the show, and then left it in a short amount of time.
For Demi, this is definitely the best move, especially if Fox was planning to get rid of her on their own. Her performance this season has lagged, and most of her humor with Simon Cowell has felt somewhat forced compared to where it was in the first season. She also hasn’t had a ton of success in the mentoring role, as this marks the second straight season where she did not have an act in the top 4.
There are many other changes coming if “The X Factor” does make it to a fourth season, which Simon seems to think that it will for whatever reason. We could see a change to a once-a-week format a la “So You Think You Can Dance,” and there could also be a move to get rid of the entire judging panel to go with new people once again. Personally, we wouldn’t be shocked if the show took on a completely different format altogether that was cheaper to produce, and didn’t have so many of the audition rounds that required all of the travel.

Probably a smart move, for whatever reason.
