‘Better Call Saul’: ‘Breaking Bad’ spin-off to make quick transition to Netflix

Better Call Saul season 1There are many reasons why “Breaking Bad” became the global phenomenon that it did, but even creator Vince Gilligan would say that one of the big reasons for its success was getting Netflix involved. This gave the series new life online for binge-watchers everywhere, and thanks to this, DVD sales, and the show just being awesome, season 5 went on to smash all sorts of records for AMC.

So can you really be surprised that “Better Call Saul” now has a pretty fantastic relationship set up with Netflix? You really shouldn’t be. Netflix confirmed today that for its users in the United States and Canada that the first season would be available for streaming following the season finale on the cable network next year, and would also be available in Europe and Latin America shortly after its U.S. airing in 2014. This is a big arrangement that ensures that you don’t have to wait long at all to see Saul Goodman’s adventures even if you don’t have AMC in your cable package.

In a statement, here is what Ted Sarandos of the company had to say on the subject:

“‘Breaking Bad’ is widely recognized as one of the great TV experiences in this new golden age of television. It has also proven very popular with Netflix subscribers around the world. This spin-off promises to continue its tradition of powerful storytelling. We are proud to be in business with Sony Pictures Television to bring Saul Goodman to our subscribers around the world.”

To us, the biggest story surrounding this spin-off is mostly that “Better Call Saul” is not even filming yet, and the idea may still be coming together. For example, just because most rumors have the show as a prequel do not necessarily guarantee that it will be so. Instead, this could just be a show that combines a little bit of Saul’s past and present. We know that it is possible that Bryan Cranston, Aaron Paul, and some other actors could actually end up making a return in a cameo if the right situation calls for it.
