‘Arrow’ season 2, episode 9 video: Grant Gustin’s Barry Allen enters the picture

The latest -Are you ready for The Flash? Despite whatever sort of polarizing opinions are out there about the Barry Allen character, he will be appearing on Wednesday’s “Arrow” season 2 episode. Not only that, but we are actually feeling a much more confident that Grant Gustin will deliver as a character then we initially were when the role was first announced.

One of the biggest concerns about Gustin’s casting was that he looked almost too young to play the iconic character, but that subject is addressed pretty early on in the video below courtesy of a well-placed joke. But despite his youthful appearance, Allen feels more than capable when it comes to his job, and probably has more knowledge about forensics than almost anyone in the room. The only intellectual rival that he has is Felicity Smoak, which probably helps to further explain the sort of romantic connection that the two are going to have. This is by no ways an indictment that they are going to hook up, but there will at least be enough chemistry present here that Oliver is going to notice it.

So is Barry aware of who Oliver really is? Not at first. He is instead more inclined to treat him as an ignorant guy who knows nothing about cracking skulls or men with mysteriously brute strength. That is why he was sent up from Central City in the first place, as he hopes to investigate how a man could basically bend metal and break someone’s neck with one hand. This sounds pretty supernatural to us, and it could also further explain a little bit of how super-powers do end up naturally trickling into this show’s version of the DC universe.

Barry will be in both this episode and the one that follows, and will not be seen again this season, save for maybe a surprise cameo. The episode that was originally going to serve as a backdoor pilot is now going to be a regular pilot with a full budget, and it could premiere on The CW in the fall depending on if it gets the green light to series.
