‘American Horror Story: Coven’ episode 5 preview: Witch wars and burning stakes
You have likely been waiting for the moment where the battles between the various factions on “American Horror Story: Coven” started to really get going, and that was at the center of Wednesday night’s episode. Marie Laveau has unleashed a sea of horrible things on the witches in her own unique way of getting revenge, but of course Fiona is not going to back down from that. She’s also realizing that she has committed herself to even more trouble by killing the wrong person; while Madison was getting more and more powerful before her death, she was not the supreme.
The title for next week’s episode feels pretty practical when you look at the story of this show: “Burn, Witch, Burn!”. The story from here on out is also going to make some sense, as Marie will more or less try to figure out a way to do that if it is at all possible. She wants to see the destruction of this coven, and will stop at nothing to see it happen.
For a few generic details, the official synopsis has them for you below:
“Besieged by Marie Laveau’s army, Zoe unleashes a new power. Fiona and Myrtle clash over control of the Coven. Madame LaLaurie is confronted by old ghosts.”
This looks to continue what is at least the tone of this season, which is combining a little bit of horror with some occasional humor, but then having so many terrible people in there that you don’t know whether or not it is ever okay to laugh. This is a strange season that really needs somebody to root for, and we hope that Zoe becomes that person. We just haven’t been able to get behind the whole “murder you with my lady-parts” thing, mostly because it feels too cheesy and almost like it is out of an old grindhouse movie. (In other words, it doesn’t quite fit the rest of the show.)
