‘Dancing with the Stars’ 17 spoilers: A major announcement; plus, Maksim Chmerkovskiy speaks
Today’s “Dancing with the Stars” update is a little bit different than what we usually sit here and write on a Saturday. This is traditionally the time in which we share our weekly contestant rankings, but there is a little bit of a problem this time around: Nobody left the ballroom on this past episode. Without any major change, there is no point in coming on here and discussing things that have already been discussed.
Instead, we’re going to start here with the reveal that there is going to be some sort of significant announcement made on Monday night’s show, and the only real clue is that it’s not going to be a double-elimination. (Due to the voting snafu this time around, there is either going to be a double eviction, or a finale featuring more dancers.)
The hot theory floating around right now is that this could be the end of the road for Head Judge Len Goodman, who has been a part of the show since the very beginning (along with Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli) and is also a big reason for its success. He’s the serious judge, but there has also been a nice little touch of comedy mixed in there. But he is 69 years old, and he has spent most of the past several years flying back and forth between America and Britain, where he also judges “Strictly Come Dancing” with Bruno. (Bruno is 12 years younger than him, and clearly has more energy than he really knows what to do with.)
While we don’t want to sit here and speculate about something that is speculation itself, here’s an interesting suggestion for at least a guest spot if there is an opening: Maksim Chmerkovskiy. The popular pro on the show, who has been absent by and large for the last two seasons, told Today.com that he would be interested in giving this a try if the phone call came in:
“My participation with ‘Dancing With the Stars’ is up to higher powers. When there’s a phone call, ‘Hey, we want you to be a judge,’ it will be welcomed with positivity and smiles.”
Maks is still busy in the dance world, so don’t just think that he is dating Kate Upton and doing little else just because he is not a part of the show right now. We’d love to see this at least for a week, mostly because he and Carrie Ann Inaba at the same table trying to get along would be gold.
