‘Bones’ season 9, episode 6 review: Did Booth, Brennan wedding or vows make you cry?

You have been waiting for this episode for quite a long time, but on tonight’s “Bones” season 9 episode, the wedding for Booth and Brennan was here … at least for the last ten minutes. Seriously, why the long wait? There really was not a need for so much buildup, or another case that took up a good bit of the time. But then again, the show did so much right in the final minutes, whether it be a return visit from Cyndi Lauper to the squinterns borrowing costumes for the Jeffersonian, that you really cannot complain about this too much.

It’s also really hard to criticize or “review” anything too harshly in this episode, mostly because so much of this was really all about fan service more than anything else. It was a thank you to everyone who has spent so much time waiting around for this moment. That’s why we can overlook that Brennan somehow prepared for this in 30 minutes’ time, and focus more on those vows that probably made you cry.

The big thing to take away from this ceremony is the attachment that both the show and the fans have to these characters at this point. They feel like family, and this made the wedding itself all the more intimate as we saw them interact with family members and guests. We did not, however, see the reception, which would have been fun; but then again, we take this as a sign that there was not actually any drama there, and sometimes, not having something happen on screen means that it went on without a problem. At this point, this couple needs as many drama-free moments as they can possibly get. (Plus, it’s nice to see a break from the murder-mystery trope of “there must always be something bad!”.)

Overall, this was a lovely episode despite some bumps in the road, and you were almost surely tearing up by the time the credits rolled. In the end, as Brennan said in her vows, “it feels right.” Congrats to the writers for really putting their all into making this wedding almost everything that fans could hope for. Grade: A-.
