‘The X Factor’ UK results: Did Shelley Smith, Kingsland Road survive week 2 sing-off?
Going into the results tonight on “The X Factor” UK, we already knew that Kingsland Road was going to be competing in the sing-off, with a chance to surprisingly go home after a pretty good performance. We know that for their mentor in Gary Barlow, this has to be in some ways a wake-up call given that they have been perceived as being a little bit more popular than this.
Are they going to be able to defeat Shelley Smith? Even though Abi Alton struggled last night and Sam Callahan does not look like a serious threat to win the whole thing, this was inevitable. Shelley has no hope of even getting to the top five, so why bother keeping her around right now? So after Katy Perry performed with the Whispermen from “Doctor Who” and Robin Thicke performed “Blurred Lines” for the billionth time on a television show, we then went to the “save me” performances.
Kingsland Road, “Try” – These guys still have some work cut out for them. You don’t really get a sense that they know exactly what sort of boy band they are supposed to be, but they are likable enough and pretty good singers. Like we said last night, though, pre-assembled groups struggle sometimes on the show since you don’t see their formation and early development.
Shelley Smith – Shelley’s performance was once again pretty good, but the issue here is just that she doesn’t have the fans. If she stayed, then she would really just be in the bottom yet again. She probably will have a great career over on the West End, where she can continue to perform and make a great living.
In the end, Shelley did go home in a 3-1 decision, despite Sharon Osbourne basically trying to throw herself at Louis Walsh in return for his vote. Shelley seems delightful, but it was the right choice since the boys really do deserve another chance.
