‘Supernatural’ season 9 spoilers: Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki, and onscreen love interests
Are we going to see Sam and Dean Winchester have new love interests on “Supernatural” season 9? So far, we can’t sit here and say that most of the fan base has been altogether pleased with some of the romantic subplots that have surfaced for the boys over the years. Last year we had the great Amelia crisis, and since that time the two Winchesters have remained relatively romance-free when it comes to ladies that steal their heart.
But when it comes to the possibility of someone coming on board and playing a part in the story for a while this season, we have to say that you shouldn’t get your hopes up too much (or start creating a sign for the inevitable picket line). As showrunner Jeremy Carver says to E! News, there aren’t any immediate plans to see a romance for either Jared Padalecki or Jensen Ackles’ characters for at least a little while:
“I think you’re going see a little bit of everything. I mean I can’t quite comment on everything down the line here, but as far as the boys are concerned, there’s not a lot of time for [romance], at least here in the early going.”
While it may seem like the Winchesters are gong to be reasonably unlucky in love for the present, that is not going to be that way for Misha Collins’ Castiel. As the promo for next week’s episode clearly shows, he is going to be kissing someone! This woman is at least going to open the man up to some new emotions, and also potentially show him that there are some benefits to acting like a normal human being in eating, sleeping, and taking care of your personal hygiene. It’s quite a bit different roaming around on planet earth than it is being an angel and sporting a set of wings.
Is there any sort of situation where you would want to actually see a romance for one of the Winchester brothers in the near future? Be sure to share below! We’re going to have some more scoop on next week’s episode “I’m No Angel” very soon, so be sure to stay tuned for more on that.

Yeah, if they are not going to be brave enough to go there and have a romantic relationship between Dean and Castiel, then I’ll be very happy for them to just not try to do anything romantic. Although, I think it would be great if they brought in a character that could be friends (and maybe more) with Sam, but also made sure this person had great chemistry with Jared and that the character was a character in their own right with their own story and not just there for a ‘love interest’. That to me is one of the main reasons I believe in a a story between Dean and Cas because Misha and Jensen have incredible chemistry as actors, Cas wasn’t originally brought in as a ‘love interest’, but has been given an incredible back story and character growth for himself, and their story has really organically evolved throughout the seasons.

The sad thing for Dean is that, for me anyway and many other bloggers and fans, he showed this intense sexual chemistry, right away, with the one character that he can and won’t ever actually sleep with i.e. Abaddon! Damn! Why the hell can’t these casting agents cast females that have THAT kind of chemistry with either of the boys, who are actually supposed to be love interests?

Thank you for no Destiel. Hopefully that trend continues. Because that format would NEVER work with the show. It would never make sense and it would obviously be forced fanservice.

I don’t know about that. Dean and Cas DO share an intense chemistry, right from Misha’s very first scene with Jensen in 4:1. However, one would have to find a way to explain the fact that a 35/36 year old man who always identified as heterosexual suddenly falls in love with a dude.

I personally ship Dean/Cas but i feel that Sam has really been left behind in the friendship area. Dean has Cas, who has become his friend but Sam doesn’t really have anyone else other than Dean. i hope that Zeke is good and becomes Sam’s friend eventually

The most obvious love interest and one I’ve been waiting to see since S5 is Dean and Risa! From The End, we know Dean has a relationship with her and we further know she survives until then/now. With Lexa Doig playing her, I expected her to resurface long ago for a larger role. I most want to see Dean with a strong woman, a hunter, someone formidable that would truly ‘get’ him and be able to spar with him in battle and in bed! If Risa doesn’t reappear in S9 or S10 then they’re just denying canon…right? I most want to see Dean’s reaction the very first time he sees her, knowing from the jump that he’s going to be successful there!

Nice idea and so refreshing too! Thank you! I’m sick to death of “shipping” – the boys are not gay or incestuous or into interspecies relationships! If people want to fantasise that is great – go ahead, enjoy it and be creative with it, whatever you want but please don’t force your views onto others by trying to say it’s canon! It isn’t canon, in any way shape or form. I would love Dean to get back with Cassie – she was my favourite of his partners and he trusted her enough to tell her about himself. Also she wasn’t just a one night stand. She’s tough and feisty and could handle the “life”. I would like both boys to happy in a loving relationship but sadly I believe the “family business” will always get in the way. They are weak because of each other adding another love to the mix gives “demons” etc. more ammo to get at them.

I agree completely!! I hate when the fans talk about them being together and the actors themselves dont like it! I would love to see them get to be happy with ladies but its doomed because they are just a target from the beginning for the demons. Sam had really hot chemistry with Ruby we got a little glimpse of their sex life! Lol Amelia was the only woman hes been with that he didnt have chemistry with!

I liked Risa! I always thought I was the only one. I’d love to see her again. Dean needs a strong woman who can kick his ass if necessary.

Although, the more the series progresses, the more clear it is that hunting, and now the Men of Letters, is something that is passed on generation after generation in the Winchester family. I don’t believe they’ve introduced a character (except for maybe Jo) who had any kind of long term potential in the past. However, this is one of the things their home base has now made possible. For me, after 9 seasons, this is the most logical next step. Maybe this is where the series ends though? Hopefully not before some amazing flash forward episodes! :)

Show can’t ever have a long term romance for any of the leads (Sam, Dean. Cas) due to the nature of the premise (the bros hunting evil) when a romance does show up, you know it’s doomed, even though there have been plenty of great female characters (Missouri, Jo, Ellen, Pamela, Jodi, Linda, Charlie) and to be honest, fans don’t tune in for anything other than bromance (Dean and Sam) (Dean and Cas)

I usually don’t mind when either brother has a chance for romance, but I agree that the whole Amelia thing for Sam last year was far from a success. I don’t think Jared had any chemistry with Liane Balaban, and her character wasn’t all that likable. I much preferred Dean with Lisa (another unpopular pairing, but I loved it,) or when Sam met Sarah Blake (I HATE that she was killed off! LIVID!!)
