ABC’s ‘Castle’ season 6: Nathan Fillion temporarily sidelined for back problem
It’s another Friday, and there is some news breaking from the “Castle” set. However, what we are talking about here is far different than some of the recent Nathan Fillion headlines regarding a contract issue with ABC Studios.
According to Deadline, Fillion had to miss some time shooting Friday in order to deal with a chronic back problem that he has. Production at least had enough of a forewarning to schedule some scenes without him for the day while he seeks some treatment for the time being. The earlier issue regarding the actor and his work week has since been worked out, as Fillion has been on set for several Fridays this fall without any incident at all.
“Castle” is now deep into production on season 6, and while he is one of the two leads of the show, the good news is that there is enough of a cast so that producers will be able to shoot some footage with other actors that is still valuable to the story. The show premieres on ABC a week from Monday night, with the hope being that the premiere will answer valuable questions both on Castle and Beckett’s possible engagement, and where Stana Katic’s character will call her place of employment early on in the season.
“Castle” remains a valuable force in the ABC family. While it was originally perceived by many to just be a show capitalizing on the “Dancing the Stars” lead-in, it has proven to have a massive audience of its own, and one that is extremely loyal and supportive. We’ve learned that beyond just the show’s ratings, with fans visiting this site in frequency over the years for “Castle” news and spoilers.

He isnt THE lead. He is one of the leads beside Stana Katic.

Stana is the lead. Has been for few years now. If this show had not hired Stana Katic, I would have given it 6 to 13 weeks, possibly. In the premiere show, her facial expressions exhibited when Nathan was guessing her reason for becoming a cop, sealed the deal. People became interested in this unknown. Her acting has only improved over time. Beyond her acting talent, there is a screen presence that draws people in. I’ve seen this quality in Julia Roberts and Sandra Bullock. Poor Nathan. Bad back on Friday = 4 day week. I suspect there is more to his request than is being told. I think he might NEED a 4 day week. He has been looking bad since the end of second season. It is more than weight gain.
