‘How I Met Your Mother’ season 9, episode 1 preview: New footage of the Mother!

For those of you hoping to see more of Cristin Milioti in action as the Mother on “How I Met Your Mother,” you don’t have to wait until the season 9 premiere airs on Monday, September 24. As a matter of fact, we have something that should very well suit your fancy below.

This promo features Milioti’s still-unnamed character specifically in an encounter with Lily aboard a train to Farhampton, the site of the Barney / Robin wedding. Seemingly noticing that Lily is someone who is somewhat-distraught, she offers Lily a cookie. Somehow, this escalates quickly (to modify a famous Ron Burgundy quote), and Alyson Hannigan’s character is forced to apologize for trying to bite her hand, while the Mother says sorry for swatting her away with rolled-up paper. The two have a nice rapport even in spite of this incident, which makes us think immediately that Milioti will fit in here rather nicely.

When it comes to a story question, one of the biggest ones we have here is why Lily is aboard this particular train, given that we saw the Mother picking up a ticket to Farhampton at the same time that Lily was aboard a car with Ted at the end of last season’s finale. These scenes may not have been given to us concurrently, though, or there could be something else that happens that gets her aboard that train. We’re happy that she makes it one way or another, given that this cookie conversation could be the beginning of the road that takes Ted to his one true love.
