‘How I Met Your Mother’ season 9 spoilers: The slaps will come, and they shall be glorious

The idea of the “slap bet” was one of the more ridiculous things about “How I Met Your Mother” over the years, but it was also at the same time one of the primary reasons why so many out there loved and embraced the show. It is something that has a timeline that goes back years, and even though there are so many other pressing matters to deal with on this all-important final season, rest assured that this is not something that is going to be forgotten at all.

Speaking to Zap2It, co-creator Carter Bays sets up what will be the moment where we tie the bow around what Marshall does to Barney, and it is something that could be so epic, an entire episode could be framed around it:

“We have a gloriously stupid episode planned for the final slap. It’s just marinating — I can feel it. … It’s going to be just so delightfully dumb. It’s everything we love to do, and it’s a nice break from — there’s a lot of high drama this season. A lot of big s*** is going down. But in the middle of it somewhere is this slap episode that’s so much fun and so silly and stupid.”

Bays also said that there will be more flashbacks and flash-forwards than ever this season, and that had they not felt as though they had enough ideas to really justify 24 episodes being made, they would have simply ended the show last May.
