‘Doctor Who’ season 8: Matt Smith offers high praise for Peter Capaldi
While we are still somewhat in a “Doctor Who” news lull while waiting for the 50th anniversary special to arrive on November 23, we do have some more lovely words courtesy of Matt Smith about the man who is getting ready to replace him in the famous, super-iconic role in Peter Capaldi.
Speaking in an interview with the Mirror about a lunch the two recently shared, Smith admitted that there was not too much in the way of advice that he could really offer the veteran actor; as for the reason why, he explained that there are going to be so many differences between the two versions of the character that there may not be much common ground at all:
“I really rate Peter – he’s such an amazing actor and completely right for the part. We went out for lunch to talk Doctor tactics. I’m not sure if I gave him any real ideas because it’s not like he needs much help. He’ll play the Doctor in his own way – and do it brilliantly.
“I can’t wait to see what he does with the part.”
We do wonder sometimes about whether or not some actors like Smith would go back and watch the show after their departure, mostly because there would be such a strange feeling associated with it. However, at the same time we feel like Matt genuinely would, based on the sheer love of the show he seems to have along with a sense of gratitude for everything that it has provided for his career so far, which includes opportunities now to do feature films.
While you will have an opportunity presumably to catch a glimpse of Capaldi at the end of the upcoming Christmas special this year, he’s not going to be able to assume the duties of the Doctor full-time until next year, when season 8 will formally begin.
