Charlie Hunnam (‘Sons of Anarchy’), Dakota Johnson (‘Ben & Kate’) in ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ film
Finally, we can now be over and done with having to read two million stories a day about people being cast in the “Fifty Shades of Grey” movie. The producers of the film have made their choices, and they are certainly ones that will polarize a good many fans out there. (Then again, this would have been true for almost anyone that they had decided to bring in.) Luckily, these people are all TV stars, and we can talk quite a bit about them.
Charlie Hunnam as Christian Grey – Hunnam is the star of “Sons of Anarchy,” and knows a thing or two already about filming controversial scenes. What will be interesting about this is that we don’t quite know if there is any sort of crossover at all between people who watch the show, and people who are going to see the movie.
Dakota Johnson as Anastasia Steele – We are probably one of the few out there super-familiar with Dakota’s work. She was pretty great on “Ben & Kate,” the short-lived Fox comedy that failed to draw any sort of viewership last fall. She fits the character well, and she was clearly cast with that in mind rather than star power.
What was pretty interesting about this casting process was that so many of the names discussed were ones with a major TV background, and not necessarily people known only for feature films. Producers probably had a list of their own favorites, and then they had to figure out who was available of this group, and then who was interested.
Do you think casting from the world of TV was a smart move, and what do you think about having Charlie and Dakota on board? Be sure to share your thoughts below!
