‘The Newsroom’ season 2, episode 8 preview: Jim Harper makes a bad call
Things on “The Newsroom” are about to go from bad to worse when the show returns to HBO next week, and there is really one person to blame for it: Jim Harper.
While we are not looking at a catastrophe that is completely on par with Operation Genoa, this is still something that you would clearly want to avoid. In the sneak peek video below, you can see that Jim wrote down a few pieces of data on a legal pad for the 2012 elections, and one simple abbreviation caused ACN to make a call that was not accurate on the screen: He wrote down the abbreviation for Michigan, when he meant to write down Mississippi instead.
This is the sort of mistake that it is easy to feel bad for Jim over. He clearly didn’t mean to do this, and was just trying to get everything on paper since iNews was getting overloaded with information. It wasn’t like he pulled a Jerry Dantana and purposefully misled in order to get what he wanted on the air.
Unfortunately, “News Night” is in a post-Genoa situation where they can really have no mistakes. Everyone is simply sitting around and waiting at this point for the other shoe to drop, and we imagine at this point that it is going to be difficult to earn back the public’s trust if mistakes like this one continue to happen.
