‘How I Met Your Mother’ season 9 spoilers: First look at ‘The Locket’ premiere (video)

One of the great opportunities for “How I Met Your Mother” season 9 is the chance to focus on small, funny moments, and to also pair up characters that we don’t really see extended stories for very often. Take, for example, Ted and Lily. They have had some great plots over the years, but they’re not the common twosome that Ted and Barney are, or even Ted and Robin when you consider all of that now-unfortunate history.

But if there was any one person perfect to take a road trip with Ted to Farhampton in the September 23 season premiere, it’s Lily. Why? At first, she will try to indulge him with all of his little oddities, but then, she will go completely insane and be unafraid to tell Ted all about it. Take, for example, some ridiculously huge guide that Ted made for their road trip, complete with fun facts about Long Island and various historical structures. Lily’s not into it.

However, we have to say that Ted completely blew our mind here with his “glove compartment” line, which is one of those things that you really should have thought about years ago, but never managed to come up with on your own for some silly reason.

The context of this trip is pretty simple: Ted is going to be coming off another meeting with Robin that could make him question whether or not he could really let her go to Barney, while Lily is completely under the impression that she is going with Marshall to Italy, not knowing that there has been an offer laid at his feet to become a judge.
