‘American Idol’ season 13: Scooter Braun reportedly out; Harry Connick Jr. in?

American Idol -Ready for a pretty funny story about the “American Idol” judging panel? Then here you go. Before he was fired, Nigel Lythgoe said that in a perfect world, his ideal panel for this upcoming season would have been Keith Urban, Jennifer Lopez, and Harry Connick Jr., a two-time mentor who has proven popular with some longtime fans of the show.

So what are we looking at now? Even though Per Blankens is now the man in charge of the decisions, these three are still the judges who are currently the favorite group to be on the show in the spring. We’ve heard various reports regarding how close Connick is to joining the show, but it is somewhere between being “in talks” and being on a shortlist of remaining candidates. Given his love for the show, we would be stunned if a deal does not get done here.

As for what happened to another leading candidate in Scooter Braun, he was never much of a real contender anyway. As Hits Daily Double reports, Justin Bieber’s manager did not see much of a reason for him to join a show when he was not even able to sign the winners to management deals under his own imprint. He is attached to Sony, whereas the show is attached to UMG. Most of the interest for him joining the show came via Lopez, who is apparently a major Scooter supporter. (We really just wanted to write the words “Scooter supporter” for whatever reason.)

If Harry does turn out to be the third judge for “American Idol” this season, what do you think your reaction will be? Be sure to vote in our poll below! “American Idol” films their audition rounds very soon, so there is not much time for a decision to be made.
