‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 5 spoilers; Ian Somerhalder on Damon, Nina Dobrev’s Elena
When “The Vampire Diaries” season 5 premieres on The CW on Thursday, October 3 at 8:00 p.m., there will at least be a temporary reason for Ian Somerhalder’s character of Damon to celebrate. After all, the man will have finally got his girl in Elena! As for whether or not it will last, that is a question that the show will surely explore in some of the weeks that follow. But at least for the early stages of the show, the character may be able to finally let in a tiny sigh of relief.
So what is this relationship really going to be like? Speaking to Digital Spy, Ian Somerhalder offers up what is really a pretty interesting take on it. While he may be rather happy to be with her, it is going to feel so very much like deja vu when you consider everything that he went through with Katherine back during what you could more or less refer to as his origin story:
“He got the girl, at a great expense. It’s gotta be so strange for this guy. He was so in love with Katherine for so many years, working off the naivety of a 23-year-old man.
“To be in love with this woman who really broke your heart, and then all of a sudden to find a woman who is identical in every way, shape and form, who is 160 years his junior. What I love about [their relationship this season] is that it’s something the audience has really been wanting to see for a long time. But bear in mind that this is The Vampire Diaries, so people being happy for long doesn’t exist.”
There has already been one character announced for the show that could serve as a spoiler for Damon’s happiness, and who knows? There may be more on the way. While Nina Dobrev’s character may get plenty attention from the men at Whitmore College, we’re sure that there will be some ladies interested in Damon, as well.
