‘CSI’ season 14 spoilers: Marg Helgenberger returns for 300th episode
We should not even have to really explain how crazy it is for a show to get to 300 episodes. There are only a select few scripted, non-animated dramas in history to really get to this milestone, especially when you consider the rising costs and declining viewers that happens over the years. The only way that the “CSI” franchise has really managed it over the years is all courtesy of some great cases, coupled with some rotating cast members so that the show continues to feel at least somewhat fresh, while still keeping what made it a success in the first place.
So far an episode as important as this one, it only makes some sense that we would have some big names returning to the show. This is why we are pleased to report (per TVLine) that longtime cast member Marg Helgenberger, who spent more than a decade on board the show, will be back as Catherine Willows for the episode. Speaking to the website executive producer Don McGill had the following to say about her coming back:
“We were just really excited to have Marg come back because, obviously, she’s such an important part of the history of CSI … And she was super excited. It was kismet!”
As for what is going to bring the actress back to the show at this time, it has very much to do with a new case that is almost identical in many ways to the beginning of the series, as they have to investigate a murder with the same M.O. and the same suspect as what they originally dealt with 14 years ago. This will create some more opportunities to show the evolution of these people into the people that they are today, as there will be some scenes designed solely with the purpose of looking back at who these people once were.
This is one of many exciting announcements for “CSI” this coming season, which is also looking to stage a reunion between Ted Danson and his old “Cheers” pal John Ratzenberger. The new season premieres on Wednesday, October 2.
