‘Downton Abbey’ season 4 spoilers: Don’t expect another Dan Stevens situation
If there is one thing that you can count on from this upcoming “Downton Abbey” season, it’s that you no longer have to sit around and worry that someone else is going to pull a Matthew Crawley and kick the bucket well before their time. We may not know if there are going to be any breakups, new pairings, or arrests coming up in the new season, but we can at least say this with some confidence: You are not going to be stuck watching the producers having to kill off people due to contractual issues, or someone’s desire to walk off the show.
Speaking to the Daily Express, executive producer Gareth Neame had the following to say about the current state of the cast:
“We have now signed up the main cast members until series five, so there won’t be any more shock exits for a while.”
With this lovely bit of news in mind, there is only one thing that is worth looking out for now: Seeing if the show does end up getting renewed for a fifth season. We would be surprised if it does not come back, mostly become it is not only a ratings monster, but also an international sensation that airs almost worldwide. The only real debate that happens every year is whether or not Maggie Smith will come back, just because she’s Maggie Smith and she really has to be allowed to do what she wants.
Do you find some of this news regarding this to be a relief, or are you still worried about some of the other events that could happen to some of these characters moving forward? Be sure to also click here for a story that is all about the dogs, and keep coming back for some more news!

Jessica Brown Findley, Dan Stevens and Siobhan Finneran signed three-year contracts and did not want to extend. This was not a contractual issue–there was no argument about money or terms– and no one walked off the show.

How is this any different to the original 3 year contracts that were signed & adhered to by the cast? If an actor does not wish to extend their contract are we going to criticise or pillory him/her if it does not suit the storyline or our expectations?
