‘Dexter’ season 8 spoilers: Dexter as a … mentor?

DexterWhile there were a number of things that we were looking forward to seeing on the upcoming eighth season of “Dexter,” we cannot really say that watching him potentially teach The Code to someone new was exactly part of it. This is something that feels almost weird to do in the show’s final season, and while it does present us with a little bit of a sense of legacy for the killer, it’s also feels somewhat weird that we’re shifting from the Brain Surgeon onto this.

So how long is this mentoring storyline going to last? If nothing else, we know that it will take place for a few weeks. The photo attached to this article is from “Are We There Yet,” which is the eighth episode of the season. Basically, it looks like Dexter is giving young Hamilton a few lessons first-hand about what to do in a key situation. (The first promo for Sunday’s episode suggested that this is the direction we were going in.)

There is also another question that we wonder when looking at this story: Could Hamilton suddenly be the star of a possible spin-off show? Think about it: You can’t have someone too tied to the original series without moving them to a completely new location, and it would keep the basic premise intact and give you some insight into someone not as perfect as Dexter when it comes to their “dark passenger.” However, we do think that Showtime would want someone more adult in the leading role, which is why we’re still sticking to either Hannah or Deb as the star of a new show should the network want to go in such a route.

Do you like the idea of Dexter being the ambassador of The Code, or do you wish that something else was happening with Dexter at this point? If you want to read some more news related to the show, you can do so over at the link here.
