‘Psych’ season 8 spoilers: Mira Sorvino signs on for multiple episodes
While this cannot be 100% confirmed, it appears as though “Psych” has found themselves their perfect replacement for the departing Maggie Lawson during multiple episodes of the show’s eighth and likely final season.
Sources confirm that Oscar-winner Mira Sorvino has signed up to play the role of Santa Barbara Detective Betsy Brannigan, a woman who can be best described as a master of polar opposites. She is sweet, loving, and enjoys craft-making, but when the time comes for her to fight some crime, there is literally nobody else that you want on your side. She’s tough, smart, and should provide a formidable presence to the department in the wake of Juliet O’Hara’s likely absence.
As you likely know already, Lawson is limited to appear in at least five episodes of the ones that lie ahead, with the major reason for it being that she has a new show airing this fall on ABC called “Back in the Game,” where she is the star and a series regular. There is only so far that she will be able to stretch herself because of that, but we’re sure that Juliet will turn up during the finale, mostly because the show would not be the same without her.
What does make us a little bit more curious here about this casting is that Sorvino is not typically, the sort of actress that you see join a show late in its run for a few episodes. Could there be something more here? We’re not saying that there is a spin-off planned for the part right now, but we would hardly be surprised if something like that is explored if this Betsy character is well-liked, given that she is exactly what you would want in a spin-off part: Likable, quirky, and not super-attached to the original franchise.
