‘Doctor Who’ season 8: Matt Smith, Jenna-Louise Coleman appear at BBC proms
When it comes to the “Doctor Who” 50th anniversary celebration, there is no expense spared; and while “proms” related to the show have been somewhat of a tradition over the years (and no, we are not speaking about the high school variety), there has never been one quite like what we saw at London’s famed Royal Albert Hall on Saturday.
The BBC National Orchestra of Wales and the London Philharmonic Choir were each present to perform music from the hit series, and the photo to the left via Twitter proves that both current stars Matt Smith and Jenna-Louise Coleman also were present.
When it comes to Smith, this was his last major “Doctor Who” prom to attend, as he continues to work through a series of major “last” events before starting work on his Christmas special that will mark the end for his time as the Doctor. As for the short hair (in case you have not heard previously), Smith is sporting this look due to his commitments to a recent feature film of Ryan Gosling’s that he filmed in Detroit, which is where he actually was when the announcement was made about his exit from the show.
While there were some rumors floating around Twitter that the next Doctor was going to be announced while at this event, we have to now be the bearer of bad news and confirm that this did not happen. It is likely that we will not learn the truth about the future Doctor until after the show’s Comic-Con panel, and pushing into either August or September.
