‘MasterChef’ USA season 4 review: A shocking elimination and plenty of conflict

MasterChefIt’s not often that a two-hour episode of “MasterChef” really manages to leave a big impression on us with its first hour, but this episode of the show tonight really managed to pull that off. Why? The easy answer is that it all came down to an exit that we (and no one else) likely saw coming.

Why in the world did Lynn leave the competition in the first hour? It’s really twofold. The judges probably felt like he would not ultimately be the winner of the show for one, and he also had the worst dish on the night as Bri (the winner of the Eva Longoria mystery box) tried to eliminate Natasha by making her cook meat while everyone else got a dessert. These are the sort of eliminations that can scare contestants, and really bring more out of them than they knew was even there previously.

As for the second hour, we basically saw a very familiar sight: Krissy and Luca competing in the pressure test. In the case of the former, she’s pretty much made this her home. The challenge did contain many things that helped her substantially, including that it involved making a variety of proteins. Surprisingly, Bri managed to survive barely despite being just an amateur cook, and Savannah went home. This was not nearly as great of a shock, since we barely saw her over the course of the competition. The big surprises? That Luca keeps surviving, and Krissy is still around despite everyone seemingly hating her.
