‘American Idol’ winner Scotty McCreery: Part of ‘Duck Dynasty’ season 4 plot?
As you probably know by now, “Duck Dynasty” is a reality TV machine. While the Robertson family may not get the press of the Kardashians, or the Emmy recognition of a “Homeland,” the A&E series emerged as cable’s second-biggest program this spring behind only “The Walking Dead,” routinely beating new episodes of “American Idol” in the 18-49 demographic and proving that it was possible to have a successful show that did not involve heavy amounts of swearing.
“Duck Dynasty” has a fourth season premiering on August 24, and based on what happened recently with Scotty McCreery, this could very well be the Robertson family version of “My Super Sweet 16.” Willie’s daughter Sadie wanted to have a big party, and none other than the former “American Idol” champ decided to show up! In the video below, Scotty talks about his time with the Robertsons, performing “Man of Constant Sorrow” at the event, and even how Willie has mastered the art of the old-fashioned beard tug. We’re assuming the cameras were there, mostly because this seems like the sort of thing perfectly orchestrated for it.
So what’s the cost of getting a guy like Scotty to come to your coming-of-age party to perform? We can’t imagine it is cheap, but even before the days of “Duck Dynasty,” there is still no denying that the Robertson family was rich thanks to their Duck Commander brand. Now, they’ve simply moved up into the uber-rich category, and likely make more money thanks to their promotion on their products from the show than being on the actual show itself.
Above all, this seems like some good fun down in the Bayou for Scotty. He’s got a new album coming out in a few months, so it also has to be nice promotion for him to be on the show. As much as we love Scotty, we are a little disappointed in seeing big names coming onto the show. “Duck Dynasty” was never a series that needed celebrities to appear and it honestly makes us worried that this is the direction that the show is going in making it less about the Robertsons, more about which celebrity will be stopping by this week. Are they running out of material so soon that they have to go down this road?
Scotty is not the only “American Idol” winner currently in the headlines. Phillip Phillips also recently stopped by “The Today Show” for a multi-song set, and you can check that out by heading on over to the link here.
