‘Today Show’: Paula Deen gets emotional with Matt Lauer over n-word controversy
Just as it has been long anticipated, celebrity chef Paula Deen made an appearance on “The Today Show” Wednesday with Matt Lauer, and it was every bit as emotional as you would have expected it to be. Did the now-dismissed Food Network personality apologize yet again for her choice in language? Sure, but she also blamed society in a way, her age, and also broke down in tears while basically saying that if anyone out there had never said something that they regretted, they should just “take up that stone and throw it as hard as they can and kill me.”
She also had a surprising answer on the subject of whether or not she knew that the n-word, which first came out during a deposition when talking about something that she once said in the past, was truly offensive:
“I don’t know, I have asked myself that so many times. I go into my kitchens and hear what these young people are calling each other … I think for this problem to be worked on these young people are gonna have to take control and start showing respect for each other.”
It will be unclear whether or not Paula is going to be able to even remotely recover from this scandal. Just in the past week, she has lost her Food Networks shows, an endorsement deal for a specialty brand of ham, and QVC is not planning to have her on the show at any point in the near future.
