‘Game of Thrones’ season 4: Natalie Dormer ponders over Margaery’s future
Margaery Tyrell is an interesting player in “Game of Thrones,” mostly because she is someone who fights with subtlety rather than violence or obvious tactics. Her greatest skill is deception, and making herself look like a willing participant to anything being done around her.
During season 3, this translated into her ability to appeal to Joffrey, and potentially keep her in a position where she was more of an equal to him than Sansa Stark ever was, and thus not someone he would threaten to humiliate, but can she really keep this up? There is a certain amount of uncertainty given where we stand following the Red Wedding, especially since we never had a real opportunity to see Margaery react to it on the show this season.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly about the story moving into season 4, Dormer explained that if we were to see some sort of genuine reaction from Margaery about the killing of Robb and Catelyn Stark, it would probably be some sort of fear given where her family lies:
“Something like the Red Wedding just goes to illustrate the darkness of Tywin Lannister. It’s one thing being a politically savvy family like the Tyrells, but it’s quite another to be so amoral, immoral, in your pursuit of power and control. I think the Lannisters are the only family that would have orchestrated [something like] that. So yeah, I would imagine the reaction from the Tyrells — what happened to the Starks is going to terrorize them somewhat. I mean, these are the in-laws?”
For those missing a little Margaery near the end of season 3, don’t worry: Dormer is going to have an enormous role moving forward into next season, as there is much more story to tell when it comes to her family.
