‘Veep’ season 2 finale review: Selina rises to the occasion

VeepSeason 2 of HBO’s “Veep” has come to a close, and the series has clearly left us with what is now a pretty interesting question: Are we looking at a series called “POTUS” in the near future, focusing on an even more powerful version of Selina Meyer? After watching this half-hour, it is clear that this is the direction the show is heading.

The end result of the episode was that rather than face impeachment hearings, the President has opted to withdraw his name for consideration in a reelection, which in turn means that Selina is going to run in his place for the ticket, even seemingly with his blessing. This comes after a half-hour of complete chaos, including a moment that made it appear as though there was not going to be a switch in power, and that Julia Louis-Dreyfus character was going to have to resign rather than be stuck in a situation where she had to continue supporting this man a while longer. (Clearly, nobody wants that.)

Is it clear that there will be competition as Selina hits the trail? Sure, but for now let’s focus on the hilarious moments that occurred this week as the show came to a close.

1. Selina coming up with a series of new and innovative ways to tell Jonah to “f*** off.”

2. The continued neglecting of some young science students who Jonah offered a private tour to as a way to make up for Selina shafting them at their fair.

3. Mike’s obsessing over his boat … still.

4. Selina actually kissing Gary on the mouth.

5. Seeing Zach Woods (Amy’s boyfriend here) continue to be neglected no matter what role he plays.

6. Gary Cole’s character actually respecting Selina for a change.

7. Dan still finding a way to give Selina her first obstacle courtesy of plagiarizing one of his own speeches.
