NBC’s ‘Community’ season 5 spoilers: Will John Oliver’s Ian Duncan return?
Could we finally see a return of Professor Ian Duncan on “Community” season 5? The last time that we had John Oliver’s character on the show, Dan Harmon was the showrunner, and there was nothing about a Chevy Chase feud in the press at all. Translation? It’s been a very long time since we’ve seen one of our favorite recurring characters, who is basically the reason Jeff Winger enrolled at Greendale in the first place.
So could John Oliver finally be back this season? It’s possible, at least based on the comedian’s recent comments to Entertainment Weekly. While he is going to be spending much of the next few weeks filling in for Jon Stewart (who will be off directing a movie) on “The Daily Show,” he would be thrilled to dive back into the Duncan role after that:
“Once I’ve tanked the safest show on television then, yes, I will absolutely be calling Dan to say, ‘Look, if you’re back, I’m back, let’s do this! I’ve nowhere else to go!’”
Since it has been so long since we saw Duncan, it will be intriguing to see where the character has been. Has he suddenly cured his alcoholism, or become any more competent when it comes to his job? We’re hoping that the answer to the latter especially is no, since there was always so much joy in the fact that he taught anthropology without any knowledge as to what the subject was at all.
What do you think about Oliver’s comments, and do you want to see Duncan turn back up on “Community” before this season” (or the series itself) comes to an close? As always, we want to hear your thoughts below! Meanwhile, be sure to also click here if you want to read some more news on Harmon’s long-awaited return.
