‘MasterChef’ review: The tale of Luca, Jordan, and karma
Now that “MasterChef” is in the middle of our favorite part of the season, we have to say that we’re pretty excited to see what the chefs are going to bring to the table. Even though there are whole episodes at times that take place over the course of a single day inside of one kitchen, there still manages to be some great drama … and also some great creativity.
Rather than try to mesh these two episodes together (which would make no sense at all), we’re going to instead break these down piece by piece, talking primarily about the elimination and a few shocking moments along the way.
Episode One – Team Challenge / Pressure Test
The two teams (lead by Jessie and Jordan) had the challenge of cooking for hundreds of students, but the real issue here came in that despite having a great idea to cook pasta, Jordan’s blue team didn’t manage to cook anything other than the pasta very well. This led to chaos, and his team losing.
When it comes to the elimination, let’s be real: It was obvious that Adriana was going home the moment that she said that she felt she was staying in the Pressure Test. What we figure most people will talk about, though, was Jordan deciding to save himself before the test when given the opportunity. We actually wouldn’t have done this, even if it was the right thing strategically. Why? You’re about to find out.
Episode Two – Mystery Box / Elimination Challenge
After struggling at times in the early rounds, Luca won himself immunity with an amazing cod dish during the mystery box, and as a form of payback to Jordan over not going down with his ship in the Pressure Test, he decided to take away his mixer as a twist that came with his victory. These are the sorts of things that you have to be prepared for on this show; while it’s great for TV if you cause fights, it is not great for your chances in the competition.
However, Jordan did manage to actually still pull off a great cupcake. Neither one of these guys is a grade-A villain like Natasha, which means that things will be dull moving forward for them. Malcolm was the cook to leave over Jessie, with the main reason being that his cupcakes just tasted strange. He was likable enough, but was also not such a character that he will be greatly missed on the show moving forward.
As for the future team captains, Bime and Bethy are going to have the opportunity to lead the way next week.
