‘Doctor Who’ season 8: What David Tennant co-star would love to return?
In the upcoming “Doctor Who” 50th anniversary special, we are going to see a number of characters past and present, including multiple incarnations of The Doctor, stop by for what is going to be an exciting and complicated new adventure that involves a quest inside the character’s own consciousness. As you likely know already, John Hurt is going to be present here, playing what is basically a dark incarnation of the character who has abdicated many of the responsibilities of the character’s title.
While we know that one former Doctor in David Tennant will be back, Bernard Cribbins has already confirmed that he will not be making a return appearance at this time. But could this change in the future? It sure seems like it. As a part of a new interview with Digital Spy, he makes it very clear that he would be game to come back on the show at some point so long as producers want him.
The actor also explains why he believes that this series has managed to persevere for half a century, which is an unheard-of number even if there were some substantial breaks thrown in there:
“It’s sort of like a pantomime – it’s a tradition now, isn’t it? I didn’t mean that the show is like a pantomime! And the fact that they keep changing the Doctor in such an intriguing way… and each generation has a different view on the Doctor, don’t they? Each adult will say William Hartnell was the best, or Jon Pertwee, or Patrick Troughton, or whoever it might have been. You’ve all got your own Doctor, so they could go on changing it from now until the end of the world and you’d still have a fanbase for each one.”
Who do you want to see return for the anniversary? We want to hear your thoughts below! If you want to see what one other returning “Doctor Who” star has to say about filming this special, just be sure to check out the story here.
