‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 10 spoilers: Shonda Rhimes on Cristina’s struggle
When it comes to creating and evolving characters, Shonda Rhimes still seems intent on trying not to check all of the familiar boxes, and on this occasion, one of them is trying to make sure that Cristina on “Grey’s Anatomy” season 10 does not simply give in to having a child to get herself back together with Owen. We’ve already seen just how far she’s willing to go in order to not be a mom, and seeing any sort of significant shift from that now would be both eyebrow-raising and completely out of character at the same time.
Luckily, it doesn’t look like Rhimes has much of an interest in going down this road. Speaking in a new interview with TV Guide, the showrunner tries her best to explain precisely why it is so important to keep things different, and if Cristina is going to find some sort of balance to get back with Owen, it is not going to happen via conventional means:
“I know a lot of fans just want us to end everything by giving Cristina a baby [thinking it’s] going to make everyone happy, which infuriates me as a woman and as a human being, and as someone who loves babies, it drives me nuts … But I adamantly stand by Cristina’s ability and desire to not have a baby and to be happy about that. I think that there’s something great about this struggle and what’s going to make her happy and see where they go next.”
Hopefully, we’ll have an even greatest sense of what she wants to do when the ABC series returns to the air in September, as well as some sort of resolution is reached for this couple.
What’s your take on Cristina and Owen’s “Grey’s Anatomy” future? Do you think that they are so much better off together than they are apart, and is there hope that this baby drama can be resolved?
