‘Game of Thrones’ season 3 spoilers: Why Stannis really went to Davos
It’s not often that you have a reason to be excited about Stannis Baratheon on “Game of Thrones” these days. He’s not exactly the nicest guy in the world, and he’s also probably one of the meekest kings to have power in the wake of the Battle of Blackwater. There was one man who really would follow him to the ends of the earth in Davos, and for whatever reason he listened to the advice of Melisandre, and decided to ship the man down to prison for “treason” (if you really want to call it that).
In the video below, executive producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss explain what was the complicated decision for the character to still go down to Davos for counsel, and to try and understand the viewpoint about why it took so long to humiliate and destroy someone in Gendry who has his blood in his veins, and how Stannis in his heart realizes that Melisandre still has her own agenda, and while he still values her contributions heavily, he is not able to fully submit to the Lord of Light in the same zealous way as her.
Also in this video, the producers open themselves up on the interesting relationship between Joffrey and Tyrion Lannister, who is one of the few people who really seems to see through the whiny king and into the monster that he really is. It was a powerful scene on the show when Peter Dinklage’s character called him out during his wedding reception, and then later made the decision to protect Sansa from not only the king, but also himself in going against the wishes of Tywin and not trying to consummate a marriage with a 14-year old girl.
While we wait over a week for the new episode “The Rains of Castamere,” there is a pretty interesting story you can check out here about the state of clothing on the show … or lack thereof.
